Hi all! I've grown old enough into bodybuilding (> 6 months now) to understand the worthlessness of a six-pack. Of course, it may be frustration because I failed to get a clearly defined one till date, but overall I think it is growing wise. A six-pack entails not merely hard labour and diet, but it also brings with it a sick rest-of-the-body and thus cannot be sustained over a long period - unless of course you are on steroids, which is a complete no-no in my case.
The development of a complete body involves various alternative phases of 'bulking' or 'development' and 'cutting' or 'reduction'. The idea is that you first bulk up your muscles by carrying heavy weights in workouts and eating a lot and then reduce the excess fat which is necessarily associated with such bulking by strict dieting, while at the same time continuing your workouts at the maintenance level to sustain the muscles already built. These phases go on and on until you have a decent body to show through that shirt of yours!
The numerous principles and theories of bodybuilding are as interesting as those of law, if not more since in bodybuilding you get to experiment with yourself the efficacy of those theories. In my opinion the most challenging of all scientific endeavour has, over the ages, been experimenting on oneself, which is specifically where lies the interest of bodybuilding.
This apart, in this particular sport you come to know closely the working and limits of your body and central nervous system, which are basically the means and vehicles of your human experiences and life itself. This by itself is thrilling. The experiences of any serious bodybuilder, even if an amateur, are also a journey of mental strength and a resultant philosophy. The 'boys' and the 'men' are soon distinguished and you're on your own in many respects.
Health sometimes seems a secondary benefit, however ludicrous it may seem!
Anyway, enough of my gibberish. The good thing is I've maintained an around 65 kg weight for the past 5 months, hopefully fat being gradually replaced by muscle and have an overall fitter and healthier body. More later on. Bye for now.
